The Department of 公共安全, conveniently located at 154 Summit St. on the first level of the 停车 Deck, provides police protection 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The 89 member department includes a Chief of Police, 副首席, 船长, 助手, 中士, 警察, 公共安全 Officers, Police Chaplain (Major), and an administrative support staff. The Department of 公共安全 is a NJSACOP (New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police) Accredited Police Agency.
All NJIT 警察 have graduated from an accredited police academy and are certified by the New Jersey Police Training Commission. They serve and protect the campus and surrounding community by enforcing state laws and city ordinances, as well as university rules and regulations. University 警察 are armed and have full powers of arrest throughout the State of New Jersey. Patrolling the campus and surrounding area on foot, 自行车, and in state-of-the-art patrol vehicles, officers create a safe environment for the university and surrounding community as well as their invited guests.
The University police maintain a close working relationship with the Newark Police Department, 罗格斯大学, Essex County College, and NJ Transit Police Departments as well as other agencies in the area. 公共安全 Officers are highly visible and posted in University parking lots as well as in and around campus buildings. 公共安全 Officers also assist police personnel at special events.
